stress reduction

Easy Daily Meditation Technique

by Michelle Mayur on June 23, 2010

Regular meditation has so many benefits, including

  • reducing stress
  • deep breathing to turn on the body’s relaxation response
  • release of endorphins, the feel-good happy hormones
  • restoring balance to body, mind and emotions
  • finding the stillness within to access your creativity
  • getting away from the mind chatter and connecting to your soul

Once you establish a regular pattern of meditation, even if it is only for ten minutes a day, you will soon find you look forward to it and really enjoy those special still periods as a treat for yourself and an opportunity to switch off from the daily rush.

The following is a really simple technique for daily meditation that is useful for complete novices or experienced meditators alike. Try it for a few days and let me know your experiences.

Daily Meditation

  1. Find a comfortable place to sit or lie quietly where you can be undisturbed for at least 20 minutes.
  2. Gently close your eyes and breathe deeply.
  3. As you exhale send the energy of the breath all the way down to the soles of those feet and the tips of those toes.
  4. Become aware of the pleasant tingling sensation in the soles of your feet and continue to breathe deeply and direct the energy of the breath there.
  5. Allow yourself to just let go of all tension in your body and mind, becoming progressively more relaxed, centered and balanced within.
  6. Feel that relaxation spreading progressively through your body.
  7. See yourself surrounded by pure white light and feel it entering from the top of the head.
  8. Allow this light to spread progressively throughout your body and then see it extending all the way down into the centre of the earth.
  9. Have the intention to let go of anything that is not in alignment with you reaching your highest potential.
  10. See or sense any outmoded thoughts, beliefs, habits or patterns flying out of your body like smoke.
  11. Continue with your meditation as long as you desire or until the process of release feels complete.

Enjoy as often as possible!
